The American Foundation for The University of the West Indies is the principal link between the University of the West Indies, which is the leading educational institution in the Caribbean, and the many groups in the United States who value and support the University's work.

The Foundation partners with the University Alumni, the Caribbean community in the United States, American Foundations and Corporations with Caribbean business interests or Caribbean markets to raise funds for projects, scholarships and academic programs on the University's three campuses and thirteen University Centers.

BET's Janet Rolle Named AFUWI Gala Chair
Janet Rollé, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of BET Networks, was named Chair of the Gala Committee of the American Foundation for the University of the West Indies (AFUWI) Annual Gala. The Gala, held in New York in January, is the AFUWI's premier fundraising event in the U.S. where the prestigious Legacy Awards are conferred on notable individuals who represent high levels of achievement within their respective fields of industry and enterprise. Rollé succeeds Karl Rodney, CEO of Carib News, the largest circulated publication serving the Caribbean-American community.

Passing of the Honorable Professor Rex Nettleford
The entire University of the West Indies community is devastated by the loss of the colossal Caribbean cultural icon, Professor the Honourable Rex Nettleford. Save for the three years he spent as a Rhodes Scholar at Oriel College, Oxford, Rex Nettleford has lived his entire adult life at and for The University of the West Indies. This life-long association with UWI began in 1953 when he entered the then University College of the West Indies to read for a degree in History. He returned immediately after completing the MPhil in Political Science at Oxford and, at the prompting of UWI Founding Father, Sir Philip Sherlock, took up the challenge of widening the reach of the still fledgling institution...
